Dr Abbas E SinaThank you for your interest in our Addiction Medicine Fellowship. Our mission is to, above all else be dedicated to the care and improvement of human life. The goal of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program will be to educate fellows to provide exceptional, patient-centered care to the population in the communities we serve.

This program will provide you with a combination of clinical, educational and real-world patient experiences to ensure that you are prepared for autonomous and team-oriented patient care. The Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program will prepare fellows to become independent practitioners in every aspect of patient care and following graduation from the program. Moreover, the program will ensure that it fosters an academic environment that promotes excellence in clinical care, research and lifelong learning.

Program Director- Dr Abbas E Sina, MD

Dr. Sina is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, as well as the American Board of Addiction Medicine. Since 2012, he has been a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine.

Since 2012, Dr. Abbas Sina has treated those struggling with addiction in the Tampa area and beyond as the associate medical director of River Oaks Treatment Center. Prior to joining the River Oaks family, Sina spent nearly 20 years of his career as an ER doctor specializing in internal medicine.

In 2012, Dr. Sina’s career path shifted as he immersed himself in the field of addiction medicine. Having struggled with his own issues with addiction for decades, he was inspired by his own personal experience (and the fellow physicians who helped him regain control of his life) to work to help others who are struggling. Dr. Sina holds a sobriety date of 2/11/11 in recovery and remains an active participant in 12-step programs. His experience allows him to better understand his patients and their struggles with addiction on a more intimate level.

Dr Sina received his medical degree at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine, Baltimore and completed his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami, FL,

In his spare time, Dr. Sina enjoys skiing, snowboarding, and scuba diving. Dr. Sina is also a certified general aviation pilot and frequently rents planes to fly leisurely.

Assistant Program Director Anthony Furiato, DO – Emergency Medicine

Dr. Anthony Furiato is board certified in emergency medicine and has been part of medical staff at Brandon Regional Hospital for the past 3 years. He is originally from New Jersey but completed his medical degree locally in Bradenton at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to complete a 4 year emergency medicine residency in New Jersey at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. Dr. Furiato directed the mid-level emergency medicine training program and is looking forward to growing the emergency medicine residency. He is excited to be back in the Tampa Bay Area with his family and to serve the people of Hillsborough County.

Michael Murphy, MD, MPH – Psychiatry

Dr Michael Murphy is a board certified in psychiatrist. He completed his medical school training at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass and completed his medical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his psychiatry training at McLean Hospital. He currently serves as Executive Medical Director at River Oaks Treatment Center in Riverview, FL.

Arpit Patel, DO – Pain Medicine

Dr. Arpit Patel is a dual board-certified interventional pain and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist providing a wide range of pain management services at Florida Pain Medicine in Wesley Chapel, Riverview, Tampa, Zephyrhills, and Brandon, Florida. Dr. Patel takes a multidisciplinary approach to pain management and is expert in various diagnostic specialties and treatments of complex pain associated with spinal and vertebral pathologies. He is expertly trained in a variety of diagnostic specialties and treatments, including fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided spinal and peripheral nerve injections, joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, intrathecal drug delivery systems, cancer pain management, and complex headache/facial pain management.

Dr. Patel joined Florida Pain Medicine after completing the prestigious ACGME accredited Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Florida.

Gerard Sager, MD – Addiction Medicine

Dr Sager is board certified in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. He received his medical degree at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara Facultad de Medicina Guadalajara, and completed his residency at Zucker Hillside Hospital/Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is a faculty physician at the River Oaks Treatment Center in Riverview, FL.
