Brandon, FL — Brandon Regional Hospital, an HCA West Florida hospital, recently announced three expansion and renovation projects slated to begin in May 2014. These projects represent one of the biggest job-creation initiatives in Eastern Hillsborough County in recent years – generating an estimated 146 full-time equivalent construction jobs and a projected $60 million direct economic impact through the end of 2016.

Brandon Regional Hospital is expanding to meet increasing patient needs in Hillsborough County, where the population grew by 5.1 percent from 2010 to 2013. Since Brandon Regional Hospital opened the Plant City ER in Hillsborough County in October 2012, that facility has served more than 25,000 patients.

Among the slated projects:

  • Build-Out of the A Tower’s Third Floor – Beginning in May, the hospital is slated to build out the tower’s shell space, adding 30 progressive care rooms and 10 intensive care rooms, for a total of 25,300 additional square feet.
  • Parking garage Construction on a 325-car expansion for the North Garage is expected to start in August and be complete in December.
  • Emergency department – With construction slated to begin in November 2014, the hospital will add a 72-bed, 84,510-square-foot emergency room with two additional 64-slice CT machines, a dedicated pediatric emergency department entrance, an EMS entrance with an elevated helipad and free valet parking.

Construction is slated to last a total of two and a half years, with additional expansion projects planned in the future. During construction, the hospital campus will stay open with no reduction in services or capabilities.

“As Hillsborough County continues to attract new residents, we’re committed to serving the growing needs of our community and creating jobs in the process,” said Bland Eng, CEO of Brandon Regional Hospital. “We look forward to expanding our capacity to provide quality, compassionate care to patients in our area.”

Thomas Miller and Partners is serving as the architect for the projects, and J.E. Dunn is the general contractor.
